New Jersey Corruption #2 (and unrelated corruption sentencing...)

Jersey city mayor is "public official 4" mentioned in one of the federal complaints.

And unrelated to the recent arrests, but interesting because it relates to sentencing of a public official for corruption, New Jersey's former Senator Bryant gets 4 years in jail.

(If Judge Munson looks to other jurisdictions to try to get some parity in sentencing, it's hard to imagine that Tim Villagomez will get anything like the 10 years mentioned in news reports as the presentence report recommendation. If he looks to sentencing here, though, he might consider that these high officials deserve more than the shmoe's in the utility reconnection scam got.)

Senator Obama Is Sworn In As President of the USA

He's so eager. He can't wait!

Obama has his hand raised before the Chief Justice. He starts his recitation before Chief Justice Roberts has finished his first phrase.

And then his excitement gives him that momentary brain-freeze, from which he recovers quickly and smoothly. Well, it seemed like that to me, but the Washington Post says it was Chief Justice Roberts who messed it up.

Obama is a real person, an endearing man. Wow!

And then there's his inaugural speech.

Worth reading.

252. Cited! Well, getting there...

I've been to busy and lazy to blog much lately. But here's the latest news about Karl Rove and the contempt citation...

And this interesting bit:

181. Presidential Politics

I'm glad Hilary Clinton won in the New Hampshire Democratic primary. I like Barak Obama, but I like Hilary better. I think Obama is just as much an old-school politician as any of them, despite his youth. I like his oratory, and his personal success, and his ability to motivate young adults to get out and vote, but I have more confidence in Hilary's ability to judge issues and made important decisions. Hilary is smart, hard-working, capable, experienced, and I like her stand on issues.

So, either way--Clinton or Obama, I think the Democractic party stands a chance of doing a better job in the president's office than the Republicans. But hey, those New Hampshire voters did good on the Republican side, too--McCain isn't all bad. He's definitely got the personal grit to lead.

So now--here's a nifty contest for those who like to make movies or who just enjoy parody: NHPR parody video contest.

125. International Photography Award--Antarctica and Global Warming

This is off the beaten track on my blog. It has nothing to do with Saipan, writing, or writing in Saipan--well, at least not directly. But it's beautiful. So here it is. A video brief from Sebastian Copeland--cousin to Orlando Bloom, and more importantly, the latest "book" winner of the International Photography Award. (Thanks to GalleyCat.)

97. SPLICE--A Nifty Music tool

So I don't know how to do the whole video thing. I don't even yet have a video camera, although my digital camera has a video icon on it (and I don't even know why!). I'm a Luddite at heart. But I'm a curious Luddite. So while I was looking for something totally different, I ran across this, and thought--wow, that's neat. It appeals to me, the lawyer, because it offers a legal way to add music to your videos. And it just seems technologically easy and cool. So I share, for those who might benefit from it. A video explains "Splice":

UPDATE 3/5/2008--that video no longer works, but this one does.
