260. Stupid Decisions

I like Jesse Torres' letter in the newspapers. I'm disgusted that a proposal for sidewalks from Tank Beach to the Kagman schools supported by zoning administrator Steve Tilley and the golf course both, and with community support, was not followed. Sidewalks provide great benefits--safety for pedestrians and vehicular traffic alike; an increase in walking which helps fight diabetes and heart disease; and more oppportunities for neighbors to communicate which builds stronger communities and safer neighborhoods, to name a few. So what reasons do the zoning board decision-makers have for turning down the proposal for sidewalks in Kagman? Who are these people (names, please) so we can remember not to vote for if they run for office?

And speaking of stupid decisions: what about this one? The PSS has already delayed school for a month, and our Governor wants them to postpone school for 2 more weeks? I mean, how important is education anyway? Our children? Are they are pride and joy, our future, our ...?

Or just an inconvenience that we should let them stay in the dark-figuratively-without education. Because we're so much better off if everybody is stupid.

I would agree with you on the schools if students weren't sent home when the power was out. I still don't get that. We went to school without airconditions or daytime lights. Unfortunately, as soon as the power is out.. the kids are bussed home. It wouldn't make much sense to send them to school.. only to have them all bussed back two hours later every day.

It's a sad state.. but unless the utilities are ample enough to stay online for the workday, or PSS changes its policy about sending students home during outages.. I don't see any way around it.

PSS sends students home for sanitation reasons. The toilets don't work; the faucets don't work; etc. I'm not sure how they're connected to the power!

I agree, Lil, PSS can't be sending students home when the power's out.
