218. Immigration, Willie Tan, Fishing, Hillary Clinton

First the good news: According to Unheard No More and this Weekly Calendar, S. 2739, the bill to federalize the CNMI, will be voted on in the U.S. House on Tuesday, 4/29/2008.

Less good news: Check out Unheard No More for some ruminations on Willie Tan's fishing interests (in light of the proposed national marine monument here).

EDIT: Angelo says that Jerry Tan will be writing a letter in support of the national marine monument. That's good to hear. Sometimes it's good to discuss rumors and ruminations, conspiracy theories and all, because you get information that helps provide a fuller picture. According to Angelo (correct me if I read this wrong), the Tan fishing venture doesn't fish in the area where the monument is proposed. So who does fish up there? And is the opposition more about the potential mining interests?

Other ruminations: Dengre's recent post on Daily Kos, tying Willie Tan's influence to Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton. Yes, I was fully supporting Hillary. Give me time. I'm reconsidering.

Yes we can!

...but I'd have to check the facts on the Tan/Monument connection. They aren't fishing here...because there aren't enough fish!

For the Tan's I'd say it depends on which of their (conflicting) business interests stands to gain the most.

I remember some Republicans calling Clinton on the contributions about a year ago. It would probably come up again if she becomes the nominee. It's not surprising in the grotesque world of fundraising, but she could have taken the high road--like Udall--and given the money to charity once the source was flagged.

I'm with you Ken on wishing Hillary Clinton would just donate the money to charity or return it.

And I'm still waiting on the Jerry Tan "letter of support" for the national marine monument.

Those conflicting business interests are called "diversification" I think. :-) It's why rich people give to both sides of a political campaign, too.
