111. Did I mention?

Did I mention that I "WON" ScriptFrenzy?!!

Yes!! I wrote a 20,000 word stage play during the month of June. Really, I wrote most of it (16,000 words) during the last week-from the 24th through the 29th of June.

And I am SO proud of myself. I learned a lot.

I haven't yet re-read it. I know it needs some rewriting, and just plain needs re-organizing, too. But really, it was fun to write, and I think bits of it are BRILLIANT, if I do say so myself.

Thanks to the Office of Letters and Light for hosting the event. And wow, I can't believe I did it.

Thanks, Samatakah, Fred, and Debra.

The script is called PHOTO ON THE FRIDGE. It is variations on a theme, thus at present a 'dramady'--half comedy and half drama. In each half, a woman walks into an unknown (because she's new to the place?) neighbor's apartment to ask for help from him when she's locked out of her apartment and she finds an all white place, without decoration or contrast, except for her own photo on the refrigerator.

In the drama, the central question is why is her photo on the fridge. In the comedy, she wants to avoid finding out the answer to that obvious question.

Next step is to let the script bake a while, then review and revise. Then I will "workshop" it with a group of student thespians, as a learning process for all of us! Can't wait.

When do we get to audition for parts in your play? Congratulations!

Saipan Writer said...

Boni, you don't need to audition.

The play will be workshopped by the TWPI students. And then if we do stage it, and decide to go with adults (for the adult roles), you and Jeff Turbit can have the leads--automatically. (Well, unless Nahal Navidar wants your part--then I guess you'd have to be the understudy.) I still need a tall, handsome man, though, for the last part. Guess I'll wait for the final results of the Saipan's sexiest blogger for that role! (Darling daughter gets the teen role, if she wants it.)

Well, of course, this is me, the playwright, speaking. Once there's a director involved, all my grand ideas will be subject to revision. And it might be a totally student production (if it's deemed stage-worthy at all), and then you'd have to wait for Broadway. :-)

But really, you and Jeff--you've got the looks for the parts I wrote. I can see it now.

Now you've piqued my curiosity. I've never been "perfect" for anything. What's the title?

Saipan Writer said...

I'm sure you've been perfect for many things, Boni.

The title is "Photo on the Fridge." I have now learned that this is a "descriptive" title. That's not the current fashion, which much prefers "metaphorical" titles. C'est la vie. It's a title I actually like.
